In the US, Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidency and almost instantly pointing to Kamala Harris was also effective in the crypto world. The Digital Chamber of Commerce, which has been working to spread and raise awareness of cryptocurrencies for nearly 10 years, sent an official letter to Harris.
“Your expected candidacy for President represents an opportunity to change that perception”
In the letter stating that a large part of the Democrats recently approved a bill in favour of cryptocurrencies, it was written that despite this, there is still a perception in the country that Democrats are anti-crypto:
“There is a public perception that the party holds a negative viewpoint of digital assets, largely due to the Biden/Harris Administration’s notably cautious and at times hostile approach to these transformative technologies, your expected candidacy for President represents an opportunity to change that perception.”
“Blacks and Latinos also use it”
In the letter, which stated that digital assets and blockchain technology are important in terms of ending fraud and bringing a more participatory perspective to the financial system, it was stated that people of colour like Harris and a large part of Latinos invest in cryptocurrencies:
“Data shows that digital assets are being adopted at higher rates among Black and Latino Americans and immigrant communities, key constituencies of the Democratic Party compared to traditional financial products.”
“Choose a pro-crypto vice president”
The institution, which also made some suggestions to Harris, demanded that statements in favour of digital assets be added to the text of the Party’s principles and that Harris’s vice-presidency should bring someone with a positive view of crypto / digital assets:
“It is very important that the text of the Party’s principles include the potential benefits of crypto and digital assets. It would be helpful to choose a pro-innovation person who knows the technologies related to digital assets as vice president. This person could be Colorado governor Jared Polis. We are hopeful that with your leadership, the Democratic Party can pivot towards a more supportive stance on digital assets, aligning with the aspirations of millions of Americans who believe in the transformative power of this technology,”
On the other hand, Elizabeth Warren, known for her anti-crypto opposition, officially announced her support for Harris.
