U.S. prosecutors seek 36-month sentence for ex-Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao

In the lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice against Binance and its founder Changpeng Zhao last year, in which more than $4.3 billion in fines were paid in the first place, a 36-month sentence has now been requested for CZ.

U.S. prosecutors seek 36-month sentence for ex-Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao

US Department of Justice (DoJ) lawyers have asked for 36 months in prison for Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, who was not even allowed to leave the US as a result of the lawsuit. The DoJ alleged that Binance and Zhao failed to adequately enforce federal sanctions and anti-money laundering laws and broke the law.

“Zhao reaped vast rewards for his violation of U.S. law”

Here are the DoJ lawyers TSI demanded up to 36 months in prison for CZ this morning. In the statement made by the Ministry, the following statements were used:

“The sentence in this case will not just send a message to Zhao but also to the world. Zhao reaped vast rewards for his violation of U.S. law, and the price of that violation must be significant to effectively punish Zhao for his criminal acts and to deter others who are tempted to build fortunes and business empires by breaking U.S. law,”

18 months became 36

As is well known, the maximum sentence Zhao could have received as a result of his agreement with the ministry was 18 months. However, the ministry’s lawyers argued that the scale and consequences of Zhao’s “wrongdoing” were so large that the penalty should also be large.

Ministry lawyers also reiterated the $50 million fine, which CZ had already agreed to pay.

The trial, which was supposed to start in February, was postponed to April 30th in accordance with the agreement of the two sides.
