Poloniex hacker transfers 1100 ETH to Tornado Cash

The hacker or hackers who stole $125 million worth of cryptocurrencies from the Poloniex exchange owned by Justin Sun in November sent 1100 Ether to Tornado Cash, the mixer service provider banned by the US amid much controversy.

While the hacker transferred ETH to Tornado Cash in quantities of 100 each, experts believe that the Lazarus group, which is affiliated with North Korea, is behind the attack and theft. The fact that the attackers have not responded to Poloniex’s bounty offers to date further increases this possibility.

The Lazarus group made its name known to the world, especially with the Ronin network attack in 2022. The group managed to steal $600 million in cryptocurrency.

The US banned Tornado Cash in the country last year, citing that this application was used to launder money from attacks on North Korea to develop nuclear weapons. A developer of Tornado Cash was also arrested in the Netherlands last year for this reason.

The cryptocurrency world, on the other hand, claims that applications such as Tornado Cash provide privacy, which is a human right, and therefore it is not right to ban them.

The US recently arrested the founders and developers of Samurai Wallet for similar reasons.
