Is the NFT world revitalising: Another CryptoPunks NFT just sold for $16M in Ethereum

After the level of craziness it reached in the 2021/2022 period, there was another sale that can be considered as a sign of vitality in the NFT market, which fell into a great silence. Following a $16 million CryptoPunks NFT sale in recent weeks, yesterday, Punk NFT #7804 was sold for 4850 ETH. The $16.4 million sale was also the second largest sale of all time in both ETH and dollars.

Is the NFT world revitalising: Another CryptoPunks NFT just sold for $16M in Ethereum

Released in 2017, an NFT from CryptoPunks, the first NFT collection on the Ethereum blockchain, was sold for 16.4 ETH worth approximately $4850 million. This sale, made yesterday evening, was the 2nd largest sale of CryptoPunks.

As it will be remembered, Alien Punk NFT #3100 was sold for 4500 ETH (approximately $16 million) in the past weeks.

The identity of the new purchasing user is unknown. It is seen that the Ethereum wallet used in the Ethereum wallet came from the Coinbase exchange and no deposits have been made to the wallet before.

“I have found the right buyer with the right vision”

The person selling and who used the nickname Peruggia on the X platform bought this NFT in 2021 and paid 4500 ETH. When this person made a purchase, the value of 4500 ETH was $7.5 million. Regarding the sale on X, this person said, “End of an era. I’ve long since felt like an imposter. Holding punks, and potentially NFTs a whole hostage by not elevating 7804 in the way he deserves. After over a year of looking around I feel I’ve found the right buyer with the right vision to appropriately elevate this asset.”

Record payment 8000 ETH

The highest amount paid for one of the artefacts in the CryptoPunks collection was 8000 ETH given in the purchase made in 2022. Deepak Thapliyal, CEO of crypto startup Chain, paid $23.7 million for CryptoPunk NFT #5822. Shortly after this sale in the big NFT craze in the last days of the 2021 bull season, there were huge declines in cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The rights to the CryptoPunks NFT collection were purchased in 2022 by Yuga Labs, the company that also created the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
