Vitalik Buterin stated that the Ethereum network is no longer a network created from nothing, but a network on which new developments are constantly added. Stating that the network has gone beyond its infrastructure when it was first established and that this has paved the way for significant changes, Buterin said that everything is not over with the Dencun update and that the additions should continue.
“The next stage should be data availability sampling”
Buterin stressed that while the main problems with scaling have now been addressed, it is also necessary to improve the ability of rollups to optimise each blob. He argued that this should be done especially with PeerDAS.
Buterin also stated that Ethereum’s next stage should be data availability sampling (DAS). As it is known, data availability sampling (DAS) is a technique used to verify that the data in a block actually exists without the need for each node in the network to download the entire block… This helps improve scalability by reducing the storage requirement for individual nodes.
With PeerDAS, scalability will go beyond the EIP-4844 that comes with Dencun, and the workload on nodes will be significantly reduced. Buterin said the following on the subject:
“In PeerDAS, each node stores a significant fraction (e.g. 1/8) of all blob data, and nodes maintain connections to many peers in the p2p network. When a node needs to sample for a particular piece of data, it asks one of the peers that it knows is responsible for storing that piece,”
As a result, more individual stakers will be able to participate in the security of the network using PeerDAS. Buterin recently said that the number of individual stakers is low and this should increase.
Apart from PeerDAS, Buterin also made some suggestions for the development of layer-2s networks. Stating that the first of these is to explore data compression techniques to increase the byte size of the second layers, Buterin said that it is important to investigate the Plasma technique here. With Plasma, data will be kept on layer-1 only in exceptional cases.
“Ethereum is no longer just a financial ecosystem”
The Ethereum founder also wrote that the layer-2s should work to eliminate the problems caused by the reliability of the codes as well as the transaction realisation. Buterin stated that the ecosystem is “extremely soft and tolerant” in this regard:
“Ethereum is no longer just a financial ecosystem. It’s a full-stack replacement for large parts of ‘centralized tech,’ and even provides some things that centralized tech does not. And we need to build with this broader ecosystem in mind,”
