El Salvador moves $400 million worth of bitcoin holdings to new cold wallet

El Salvador, which received a backlash from the Western world for making Bitcoin official currency, but did not turn back from the policy it implemented, started to reap the reward for this with price surges. While the Bitcoins in El Salvador’s hands are evaluated more and more every day, a new statement came from the head of state Nayib Bukele.

Bukele, who was re-elected president last month, announced that they moved 5689 BTC to a new cold wallet. In his post on X, Bukele said:

“We’ve decided to transfer a big chunk of our Bitcoin to a cold wallet, and store that cold wallet in a physical vault within our national territory, You can call it our first Bitcoin piggy bank. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.”

The number of BTC has at least doubled

In line with the statements made by Nayib Bukele, the platforms trying to find the number of Bitcoins in the country’s hands were finally showing that El Salvador had around 2800 BTC. In Bukele’s transfer, it turned out that the figure was at least 2 fold. Bukele’s statement that “a big chunk of our Bitcoin…” shows that the country has more BTC than transferred.

Bukele also stated in November 2022 that the state would buy 1 Bitcoin every day and implement an average reduction policy.
