The country of Bhutan, which obtains most of its energy through hydroelectric power plants and is also known for its Bitcoin mining in these power plants, sold $ 66.5 million on the Binance exchange yesterday evening. With this sale, Binance also became the first cryptocurrency exchange preferred by a country for its transactions. Previously, the German and US government preferred exchanges such as Kraken and Coinbase.

The last sale by the country of Bhutan was in July. The information was provided by Arkham, which follows the country’s wallets.

Bhutan issues about 26 Bitcoins a day. Despite the sale, the Bhutanese state still holds close to $900 million in Bitcoin. This figure corresponds to about 35% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

The Royal Government of Bhutan carries out Bitcoin mining activities in the country through the national investment company ‘Druk Holdings and Investments’. Bitdeer, owned by Chinese Jihan Wu, one of the founders of Bitmain, also carries out mining operations with the state. It is also known that Bitdeer is a company traded on Nasdaq.
