Nayib Bukele, president of the Bitcoin country of El Salvador, paid an official visit to Argentina to strengthen relations between the two countries. Bukele met with Argentine President Javier Milei, as well as ministers and Argentine Vice President Victoria Villarruel.

Bitcoin was also on the agenda during Bukele’s head-to-head meeting with Vice President Villarruel. In this special meeting held on the second day of talks with government officials, Villarruel expressed great interest in El Salvador’s Bitcoin experiment and innovative volcanic mining projects. Stating that the issue is of great importance to him, Villarruel underlined the growing interest in Bitcoin on a global scale as a means of economic innovation.

“We talked about Bitcoin with Bukele”

In a statement to the press after the meeting, the Argentine Vice President said, “We talked about the Bitcoin issue, where El Salvador is a pioneer, how they have implemented it and how they have solved the problem with gangs. It was a very interesting and very pleasant meeting.”

Argentine President Javier Milei is known to favour Bitcoin. Liberal leader Milei made statements supporting Bitcoin both during the election campaign and before. The President described Bitcoin as ‘a movement against central bank fraud’. He also said, “Bitcoin represents a return to the private sector, the original creator of money.”
