Tesla removes Bitcoin from its source code, keeps Dogecoin

Tesla continues to take interesting and controversial steps on cryptocurrencies. Less than 24 hours after the Bitcoin and Dogecoin options that appeared in the company’s source code yesterday became news in the crypto media, the company’s engineers removed the Bitcoin option from here. It is seen that the Dogecoin option is still in the code.

Musk doesn’t have a negative attitude towards Bitcoin, but given his regular support for Dogecoin, it’s not surprising that he would favor this “meme coin”. The company also currently allows Tesla products other than vehicles to be purchased with Dogecoin.

The Bitcoin and Dogecoin options in the source code revealed yesterday have been there since January.

As it will be remembered, Tesla stated in February 2021 that vehicles could be purchased with Bitcoin payment. However, Elon Musk, the company owner, announced in May of the same year that he had abandoned this decision due to the use of a certain amount of fossil fuel in Bitcoin mining. Musk also stated that he was considering opening the sale of vehicles with BTC if the renewable energy used in mining rises above 50 percent.
